Here, the automated processes can be individually adapted to your habits and needs or even to weather conditions. Nowadays, smart homes are networked, making your everyday life easier!
What can you control with your KNX building control?
- Heating or air conditioning
- Lighting
- Roller shutters
- Garden irrigation
- Presence simulation
- Music
- and much more
Did you know that KNX …
… is the world’s only manufacturer-independent standard for home and building control?
How do the individual components communicate with each other?
By means of the KNX standard (bus) it can be ensured that all the components of the building automation can communicate with each other, namely regardless of the respective manufacturer or the function used. This standard is based on more than 24 years of experience in this market.
How do KNX and ekey communicate with each other?
The ekey home converter KNX RS-485 serves as an interface between the KNX and the ekey installation in the building. This converter thus networks your building control system with your access solution. Unique identification thanks to an ekey fingerprint scanner enables the building control system to trigger an event and set the building to the state defined for the person.
The technical details of the ekey home converter KNX RS-485

- In addition to relay contacts of the control panel
- Own ETS application (ETS5)
- Functions: switch, send value, call scene
- Event assignment to finger
Which events can be transmitted to KNX via an ekey fingerprint scanner?
The following 12 events can be triggered using the ekey home converter KNX RS-485:
- 10 “Freely configurable” events (recognized fingers)
- 1 Event “Unknown” (for unrecognized fingers)
- 1 event “Security” (several unknown fingers in a given time)
What does the ekey home converter KNX RS-485 do in detail?
The ekey home converter KNX RS-485 recognizes the information of a known or unknown finger from the communication between the fingerprint scanner and the control panel (home or multi). The converter sends derived information via the KNX bus to the building control system. The subsequent actions in the KNX system are configured and triggered in the ETS5 application.
“Childproof house” event
When your child enters the house, he or she is recognized in a unique manner by using the ekey fingerprint scanner. The building control system thus gives the instruction to switch the house to a “childproof mode”. Functions such as electric stove, internet, pool cover or access to certain rooms (e.g. garage or office) are disabled and are not available to your child.
“Safe house” event
If an unknown person tries to open the door using a fingerprint scanner, the bell can be set to ring as the “Unknown” event. If an unknown person presses the fingerprint scanner 3 times in one minute, the ekey home converter KNX RS-485 can trigger the “Security” event. This can mean that the roller shutters are lowered, the lights turn on, and the homeowner receives a message on their smartphone.
